Rear suspension advice...

2000 700SXR. Its my secondary sled and my brother rides it. Also pays for any maintenance that comes up. Issue is, he wants it to ride better but is on a budget. We just ordered $200.00 in parts for it. (W arm, some bushings, sliders, etc.) It has 9700 miles on an untouched motor. At the max it will get 1000 miles a year.

Question is, should we get the rear shocks rebuilt or revalved? Price is not that much more to get revalved. At Pioneer its about $50.00 a shock. Shocks have not been rebuilt in about 5000 miles. Fronts have never been done. I'm just afraid he'll pay for the rebuilding and then not feel much of a difference. I think it might just be the sit down style of the sled he is feeling.

Also, any suggestions on how to set up the rear suspension for a 200# semi-aggressive rider? Maybe that will help him out.

If you have already spent the $200, then this doesn't help.

I would take the $200 add $50 - $150 to it and buy a used skid in good shape that will ride much better. Like a Edge, SC10-III or A/C skid. Maybe even a M-10 if you can find one that cheap. All it takes is a little work and your ride will be so much improved.

If you are really patient and willing to look every day, you can find a new take-off skid for less than $500. I ride on a new Nytro XTX skid mounted in a Viper. It is a better skid for me in every condition than the ProAction was. You would be shocked at what I paid for it ($350).

If you are stuck with the ProAction, the stock valving in the SXR wasn't that bad. I am sure that it can be improved on. If the shocks haven't been rebuilt in 5000 miles, they are likely in dire need of it. Might as well get them revalved, but use someone who knows them very well like Pioneer. Also your springs may be weak. I would have them checked on a scale.

There are many old threads about setup. All I can say is do some searches on here and try them out until you find one that works for you. Well setup for one rider isn't always good for another. Just be sure to start with the full setup. An unbalanced setup can ride really bad.

I just picked up a 09 137" MXZ skid for 350.00, new take off.. (200 miles) cant wait to try it out in the wifes 03 venture.. that is after I install it. I already got a sc10III in the srx this summer. (got about 375.00 into that skid with X shocks) , That was no problem to install... Man I was just not happy with the proaction, and know how the doo skids ride...

I have the same sled. I had my shocks revalved at pioneer last year and it did make the sled ride much better. Not as good as a M-10 but worth the $100
