Just pulled out the SRX carbs for the first time, what should i do to clean them? anything in particular? I have drained the bowls and blew everything out with an air compressor.

small needle nose vise grips. Then stop at the hardware store and pick up allen head screws for them.

Use a pair of side cutters/wire cutters and grab the head of the screw from the top on it's side using the blade of the cutter to dig into side of the screw head and turn the cutters to loosen.

will i not chop the head of the screw off with side cutters?
I have a collection of allen screws i was going to replace them with.
is their anything in there thats important i check? measure? or clean? to justify this extra work?

yes that where you'll find the pilots and main jets make sure they are spotless, dont use to much force they are brass and will crack easy, and also you can take your phillips head screw driver, put it in the screw and lightly tap with a hammer on the head on the screw it will be much easir to take out screws, always work for me. I'll have to try looking for allen head bolts

You will need a small flat head screwdriver to remove the pilot jets. And like already said just make sure pilot and main jets are clean. Should be able to see all holes are clear in them.

It's hard to explain, but your using the cutters to dig two groves on the side of the screw head (approaching the screw head from the top, not from the side like you would with vise grips). Grab the screw head and squeeze the cutters to form two groves and then while squeezing the cutters, turn the cutters CCW to break them loose.
Or you can use an impact driver holding the carb in hand while striking the driver so as not crack the carb housing. This requires three hands.
Removing the bowls is essential to cleaning the carbs. There isn't much else to clean outside and all potential problems will emminate from within the bowls.

I have (very, very carefully so you don't cut into the bowl) taken a hacksaw blade out of the frame and just used it by hand with light pressure to cut a slot into the head of the bolt. Then get a straight screwdriver and remove.

Been here before. Try the vise grips first should work for you. I replaced mine with stainless steel screws and have had no problems since. Allen heads may be better idea

the vice grips were able loosen them all... lucky. I have replaced with allen head bolts. Think i got everything cleaned out, there really wasnt too much. There was a thin buildup around all the fuel screws, it appears to be right where the needle gets close to the carb body.
I adjusted them all to 1 an 1/8 turns out.
