So my shock is leaking oil after being rebuilt (twice) so i am looked to get another shop to rebuild this one or maybe look at getting a replacement, i have heard that there may be an aftermarket shock that fits fairly well.

My question is if any of you XT owner past and present know of any shock that will mount into the skid and save me the 100 -150 rebuild (w/ new shaft).

I already have 100 in this shock for the two rebuilds before so i am kinda fed up needless to say there is only a minor rust spot which doesn't even catch the fingernail however i don't want that to be a point of failure if it gets worst..
 
I have an old replacement Comet rebuildable gas shock with an aluminum body from my first 96 Vmax 600XT. They aren't available anymore, were discontinued but can still get spare parts.
Bought that one new on clearance (left over) a few years ago because the OE on that sled was junk.
I sold that sled and kept the shock as a spare for my latest 96XT, but the OE shocks on that one have been holding up just fine. If you need it, let me know. It probably needs a recharge...

I had Bruce Shrader from Pioneer Performance rebuild and revalve my OE's, always does a great job with all my Yammi shocks.

Check with Shock Therapy, just north of Durand. I had him rebuild and revalve my ohlins for my Viper and he did a great job for a good price. He should be able to tell you why your shock is still leaking after the previous rebuilds.
 
Ouch!! Did he give you any reason why the rebuild is not lasting? Bent or pitted rod?
 
When Maxx Performance was still around I sent mine in from my xt and the one they said was toast. There was something with the body or the rod, I can't remember which. I have those parts still laying in my basement. Wish those guys were still around....
 
The first failure was the piston inside cracked and seized the shock up, i rode it most of the season that way until i went up to the trails and almost got knocked off the sled (first real bump yikes) Took the shock out and took it back he put a different piston in in, no big deal things happen.

The shaft has a light rust color but it is smooth and doesn't catch your nail, nor did it leak before i rebuilt it the first time.

This time i put the shock in rode about 50 miles MAX on smooth trails and had noticed the suspension seemed kinda soft when I sat on it but considering it had been seized up i figured it was just the difference in the shock actually working. I lifted the lid on the trailer and the oil had been dripping down the spring. so i assume the seal had been reused and was leaking, the thing that sux is he wants to charge me AGAIN to look at it.

The guy isn't a bad guy or anything like that its just the situation puts us both in a bad spot.
