I ordered this piece, a cap, it covers the spindle. I ordered one and the inside diameter of the cap was the wrong size, it doesn't fit? Its for my 98 sx 600. Were there two different size spindle caps? I'm confused, the part numbers match, but its the wrong piece?

Have any of you encountered this problem? What do you suggest I do? I ordered it from Donahue, a local yamaha dealer.

MAN, I HAVE TO TRY AND REMEMBER. I HAD A 97 700 SX I BOUGHT NEW. IT WAS RECALLED FOR A SPINDLE PROBLEM. YAMAHA UPDATED THESE SPINDLES BECAUSE I BELIEVE SOME WERE CRACKING. DON,T KNOW IF THIS HELPS. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Here is a pic.

Left side is the new one, Right side is the original....I'm jst gonna go back to the dealer and see what they say..

You're right, Tony. There was a recall on the '97 spindles because of a cracking problem. The replacement spindles took the larger cap and were used during the years following. I never heard of a recall on the 98's, but who knows, he may have an early '98 which may have had the earlier spindles. Therefore, when he ordered that cap, he would have gotten the larger one, assuming that all of the spindle recalls had been completed. I may have those early caps in the cabinet somewhere.

I know this is an old thread, but I recently just ran into this same issue. I ordered a replacement cap for one that was lost and the diameter of the plug is too large to fit in my spindle. Did you ever find the right part number for the one that fits??
