I need skis on my 89 exciter and wondered if I had any options. Anyone use an aftermarket ski or modify a newer yami ski? thanks!

Replace with the modern plastic ski from Yamaha, I did this on our Phazer II last year, what a differance. quite a few people on the site have also done this, I believe there is a posting on directions also. It took about 1 hr on the first side and about 1/2 on the other, this was start to finish. I use RX1 ski's i bought on Ebay. Allan
sweet... I will look for this procedure.
so correct me if I am wront, but I need a set off a 03-04 with the aluminum saddles. then do I follow the procedure shown in the tech section?

You would need ski's with a saddle.
thanks dnale... I wonder if the vmax install would be the same as the exciter? anyone?

I believe you are going to need the ski's with saddles the strut on your tss sticks down further than the center line of the ski bolt. That is why your have to cut the saddle out in the shape of a rectangle. I guess you could use a saddless ski if you have the ability to mill out the bash of the ski. You can use any of the saddle style ski's. how about a set of the GYTR ski's, they really carve. Allan

I used a set of skis off of a 06 Viper, I used a Dremel Multi-tool to notch out the base to give me the clearance I needed.

What models did the GYTR ski's come on? I've been reading around and it seems that the 01 Mtn Lite had the better version of the older style plastic skis? And what do yo guys think about Powder Hounds? Good skis? Sorry Dexter if i hyjacked your thread

I know the 99 SX and SRX both came with GYTR ski's. not sure of other years. If you want deep snow capability these might not be the best option though. Mine our skinnier than the standard style plastic ski. Allan
thanks for all the input guys... I have been on TY 4 stroke side for a few years now and I know that this board is just as phenomenal!
I used a set of saddless ski's from a 06 Attak. just made the necessary measurments and notched them out. worked great. they are pending a sale right now or else i'd offer them to you for sale.

No, I just looked them over, made some markings, and went to town, had to install/uninstall a few times until I had the same movement as the original. I left the original on one side and modded the other so I had a reference to the full motion of the ski.
