I have an 01 srx700 with the new hammertime weights. I'm running the stock helix, 63.5grams in the primary, and a polaris blue secondary spring (very stiff). It over-revs to about 9000 off the line, then pulls back down to 8400 ( right where I want it ). What do I need to do to get rid of this over-rev? I'm figuring a less aggressive secondary spring and a 48/36 helix. Any thoughts? I beat a new f7 that was clutched and geared for 500 ft, and I still had my stock gears in, but I want to get rid of the over-rev.

Ditch the polaris secondary spring & run a yamaha green at 60. This sounds like where a lot of your probs are coming from & some of the overev is probably spinning the track too.

TRY THIS 51/37 HELIX GREEN YAMI SECONDARY SPRING @60*5.3 GRAMS IN THE HEEL / CENTER EMPTY AND 5 GRAMS IN THE TIP. GETS YOU REAL CLOSE.

I'm getting good hookup, traction isn't the problem. My primary is getting hot, so it's definitely the belt slipping. How aggressive is the Yamaha Green spring? I'm just curious. I thought that the HC's would grab the belt a little more aggressively. They do work though, the s.o.b does take off like a bat out of hell, and it definitely runs hard. If I would have had my 500ft gears in, it wouldn't have been much of a race against the firecat.

If you marked your clutches you'd probably find that the secondary isn't shifting to it's potential, while the primary is doing ok.
the hammer time weights are pretty light initially, much lighter than the older HC's, it's only when that moving weight kicks in that you're in your target range. Of course, that's all a guess at what's happening, since I'm not there with ya having fun!
Turk is right on of course, go with it. A different helix will jump you off the start even better. Good luck!

What do you have to do to get the secondary to get a full shift on a Yamaha. I've always ridden cats so I don't know as much about the yamaha's. I've been told by a "so-called" expert that a yvxc secondary won't/can't get a full shift.

I've seen as close as 1/8" to the edges of my sheaves front/back, with no mods like machining or cutting. I run a Dalton helix, and that's what I attribute the improvement in shift out to. Some folks have a helix they like and machine some material off near the bushing and make it flush. Other than that, a good set up for conditions is crucial.
A great trail set up won't shift up in deep powder, etc.
