Ok, I have decided to not go the New York riding this year, to high of permit cost. Thanks for all of the help from the guys who ride their though on my last vacation post.
Now, I have always wanted to get back up the the Keweenaw Pennisula area, I hope I am spelling it right. I rode there once in the late 80's, no idea of where though. I will be taking my wife and son, both experianced riders, averaging 2,000 miles per year. I would like to find a base camp area, basic hotel / motel mom and pop style preferably. good fuel and good food. We will probably travel around the Christmas and New Years. I was thinking of staying in Houghton area, this is just because I saw on map trail lead to Houghton, from there we can ride North and South. Any thoughts and help. Al

I haven't been to the U.P. for a couple years but remember this. Christmas to New Years is nicknamed Hell Week as for everybody and there brother is on vacation. Also seems to be alot of cowboys out that week. The Keweenaw is awesome. So are the trails south all the way down to Corridor 2 trail. Alston trail has some pretty cool views and watch for the trail that takes you to the top of Silver Mountain for an endless view. Mass City and Rockland also have some cool views. The only thing about staying in Houghton is there where way to many bars and good places to eat.

Come to Houghton! With my newborn my girl friend won't let me ride unless I have a legitimate excuse too. If you come up then I can show you around. That way I can at least start my sled this year.

The only reason I would go over the holidays, is because I want my son to join us. He is still in school and can't miss to many days a year. I guess if the holidays wont work out we can always do a long weekend, Fri through Monday. Al

How far of a drive is it from Green Bay? We have some relitives in Green Bay, I might be able to spend the night with them due to long drive North. 560 miles to Houghton MI. I might be interested in a trip at the time of a proposed TY ride. Allan

it takes me 4 hrs roughly. the ty ride is 18th-20th. i just made my reservation an hour ago. this is always my favorite ride of the year. there's more info on the 4-stroke side about the ride. as stated before the week between x-mas and new year's is quite hectic
