Hey guys. I'm planning on making it to Minnesota this year. Just looking at the map briefly I was thinking deluth possibly? Was thinking the superior national forest is right there or we can ride east into Wisconsin or straight up the lake toward Canada??? We ll be comin from Chicago. Looks like a 9 hour trip up. Any input would be appreciated. Suggestions. Places to ride, stay better reccomendations. This will be the first time up there so we would be up for anything. Thanks a lot

i dont know very much about the duluth area, but Alexandria has over 300miles of trails, 96 lakes, and tons of ditches to ride, along with plenty of places to stay... it would be aprox. the same travel time, maybe an hour less... ;)!

We have family in the Detroit Lakes area, We usually stay for a week and put on about 1000 miles per year there. Not crouded, good grooming and alot of snow. at least in the last two years. Allan

Don't get too excited. It's been canceled every year due to lack of snow. Usually the plan is to base it out of the Nevis/Park Rapids area as that's where the guy on the 4 stroke side that organizes it rides out of. I think he goes by the name Convert or something similar.

I know. On TY4, I proposed a TY ride MLK weekend up the North Shore. No interest. I even opened it up to other weekends. Still no interest. I guess time will tell if it ever really happens.

I would be willing to help organize something on the Iron Range. I have a cabin by McCarthy Beach State Park (near Hibbing) and my parents live outside of Ely. There are a lot of good trails, and the chance snow seems more consistant there.

I live in Hermantown by Duluth, and I would help to organize as best I can. And I for sure will attend!

What does it cost for a trail pass in Minn. ? I heard a while back at Hay days that you cant run studs in Minn. any truth to that.

If the weather cooperated I'd love to get in on a Arrowhead region boondocking ride. Obviously not everyones' idea of fun, but I could probably come up with 4 or five participants. I'd be in for a trail ride in the ely/orr area or even the north shore, but personally we've done that one a few times already. If the weather cooperates Brainerd area can be alot of fun too, but we've been a bit short on snow lately:(

We got snow the other day a good 5 inch. Took the sled out to warm it up to change the oil but I never got around to change it. Got 25 miles instead. But it was all most gone the next morning.

Studs are fine, in most areas. The only place it becomes a problem are on trails that are paved for other uses, in most of those cases there is an alternate route. I'll check on trail passes.

Guess that would depend on how official and organized you want it to be. To be official and all probably should start by getting with Tom (mrsled) and see what his take is. Unofficial just pick a date and place and see who all can/will show up.

OK. I'll get some Hotel info. President's Day weekend is probably not going to work for me, because I have a family weekend planned at the cabin by McCarthy Beach. But the weekend after might work, I'll be staying an extra couple of days after President's Day weekend to ride with my brother-in-law and some of his co-workers. I could stay up there the whole week then. We can either base out of Hibbing or Ely (or anywhere up there for that matter). Ely has few decent hotel/motels. Hibbing has a some as well, the Eveleth/Virginia area does to.

Last year even after all that rain the trails were still pretty good. I know people in either Hibbing or Ely that can map out some routes to some fun boondocking. I need to get some input on what people want to do, and if you can make it.

I'd be in for Ely area or Hibbing for sure. Either weekend works for me... Let me know if I can help out at all!
