My buds had em back in the day
Slow as hell
Lucky to get 8mpg
Rebuild primary clutch every 500 miles
Actually handled not too bad
vibration that rivaled a fusion 900

lol, just kidding...

I've never been around a ZR700, buddy had a ZR580 around that year, we beat the hell out of it and cant remember many major problems with it, eventually it developed a coolant leak from the engine and he could never fix it, so eventually sold it for a SXR600...

THat is the older chassis. I would look elseware for a back up sled.

maybe a 97+ SX600/700 or a Phazer? Wouldn't get one of them old Cats, known for engine problems from what I heard of them, IF you don't want to stay with Yamaha as a back up sled, the older carbed 600 Doo's have been very reliable, the motor was used since 99 and still used in the TNT's. The 583/670 motors were near bullet-proof to, so maybe a MXZ or Formula 583/670 or carbed 600 would be a good choice? I know, I know, this is a Yamaha site, but I'm still a Yamaha guy at heart, and always will be...

I had a 95 cat and it was bullet proof, and it even beat the yammies on the radar runs with a smaller cc engine. I put on 3500 miles in one season and it never let me down.

If I remember correctly, that was the first year for the 700 after a couple decent years of the 600 and it was a flop. Guys that traded up from a 600 were disappointed. Decent chassis but engine performance was lacking.

Weren't there some wildcat 700's? Prior to that? Also I was thinking the 580 was the mainstay for the cats in that time frame.
