I have a 1988 srv 540 fan sled , could anybody tell me if it would bolt up to the engine mounts of a 1989 exciter. the mounts look close.

also would the track from a 1989 exciter standard track fit on a srv 1988 standard track?

last question would the engine clutch fit either non electric start sled?

the SRV is a 1987 the dealer just conformed from the frame sns

I want to put the fan engine in my 1989 exciter

will the engine srv engine bolt in the exciter?

the mounts look the same but I never have good luck.

dude get out your tape measure... i suppose if i had both a srv and an exciter i could measure it for you but i dont..... typically people dont put 540 fan cooled motors into 570 liquid cooled chassiss so i highly doubt you are going to get some one to say "oh yeah it bolts right up" also i doubt it does but with some fabbing you should be able to make it work.... ya know if you WANT to be underpowered

Hunt down a 600 twin, that will work and take advantage of all the heat exchangers, as well as be very modify-able and give you tons of grunt. You also lose some of the inherent problems the 570 had as well, its a good fix. The 540 fan motor is a good little unit and I'm certain that you could make it fit, but the 600 will make it rock and I KNOW that it fits. Got a buddy who has an exciter II with a modded 600 making about 130hp! It rocks!

I'm sure if you spend some time looking you will find a good 600 and be able to sell your 540 motor thereby offsetting the cost. In my mind this is a far better idea. That 540 will bolt right into an SS 440 and make it rock! Good luck. G.
 
anybody know the hp differance between a 570 liquid and the 540 fan

I have new sleds but I like to drink beer and tinker to keep the old ones alive in the garage

well about the tape measure it looks close but its hard to measure the back mounts

ripping the fan out is easy but the liquid is messy with all the antifreeze

so if anybody has done the swap let me know

I also will look for a 600 in the mean time
 
Not sure, the 540 is around 60 + and the 570 is just under 90, I think. If you search the threads you will find these numbers, I know that I've seen them on here before. G.
 
No the mount aint same at the front. Rear mount at frame is at same place but at front exciter mount are longer distance away from rear mount than at srv frame.

I know this because I modded (welded new front mounts)srv frame last summer for ex 570 engine before srv frame went powder coating.

Measure frames and u notice that front frame tube at srv is closer to rear frame than at exciter.

So i am building srv with ex or vmx 600 (94-96) engine both fits because mounts at those engines are same. I am going to use skidoo cooler at top of tunnel. Lynx rcg skid. Other wise sled will be black and graphics is made by my bro Ike

ah ok that must be as the motor sits further ahead the the 540 fan mill, no need for the angled intakes.......if your going to change the motor why not change the seat and gas tank while your at it.......as you know the SRV has a pretty small tank.

What exactly did you do where the tank meets the cowl? I too have had this idea and would like to know any details you might be able to share. Thanks. G.
