I bought a 2000 SRX a couple of years ago to add to my collection of Yamaha sleds. The previous owner had the engine rebuilt and ported by Justin Fuller of Full Power Performance. In addition to the porting, the stock air box was completely gutted, other than the top of the box, which has most of the plastic removed, there is nothing in the air box. I have been collecting up the parts to return it to stock since this sled will be used by my 17 yr. old son for trail/touring. If I was to leave the engine in its current modified condition:
1. with the ported engine, what would you expect for gas mileage?
2. I read on this site that the ported air box makes the engine very sensitive to running lean. What do the engine experts reccommend for the air box? I am thinking of returning it to stock.
Thanks!!

Run the stock airbox.Stock jetting on the 00 srx was lean & there was an update. A trail port has negegible affect on fuel consumption.

Turk,
Thanks for the reply. I am currently looking to buy the stock air box parts. I don't know how wild or mild the porting is. I'll start with the jetting which is in the sled and adjust from there. I believe that going back to the stock airbox with the current jetting will result in a rich condition since I was told the current jetting was setup to run with the gutted airbox.

Run the 01 jetting. The specs are on the tech pages.

no need to turn it back to stock. that's a very dependable pkg.. should get 12-13 mpg. the air box needs to be be gutted to take full advantage of the porting. that set up w/ vforce 2's, cold air kit & bender silencer is about 158 -160 h.p.. trail safe jetting w/ todays fuel would be 157.5 accross, stock pilots & stock needle ( middle ). i ran 155's but the fuel today is not the same as a few years ago. also, make sure you run the carb vent tubes into the air box & let them hang in front of the carbs. the motor will run more consistant.
