I just bought a 2003 SXViper mountain that had a tree swipe. Not really bad but will need about 600 dollars worth of parts. I just got a call about a 2005 Viper with no motor for 500 bucks. My question is will the powertrain from the 2003 work in the 2005? Thanks alot in advance. Jess

Also, If the motor swap won't work could I at least use the parts off of it. I.E. cowling, trailing arm, linkage, etc? Thanks again, Jess

Sweet. Thanks alot dude. Jess
The 2004 and 2005 Vipers have DCS so there may be a slight difference in the wiring, but I am no expert...
If you don't want to spend the time + $$$ to convert the 2003 engine to incorporate the DCS then use the 2003 wiring harness so you won't have to worry about potential problems that may pop up due to the later model's DCS wiring. Also use the 2003 non DCS CDI.

Hey sideshow,
Thanks for the reply. I went and talked to my local yamaha dealership and they said if I wanted to use the '05 harness I had have to use the '05 heads because of the o2 sensor. I don't want to use the '05 heads because the guy I bought it from blew the motor by not filling the oil. So Im not sure if the heads are shot but im thinking they probably are. I haven't even looked at them yet.
My question is, would it be hard to swap harnesses, would I need to rewire the lights or could i just use the existing light wiring? I'm just no good at wiring. Swapping motors...no problem, wiring on the other hand scares me. Well thanks in advance to everyone, Jess

I have never done this but I'll give you my .02c
If you use the complete 2003 engine, wiring harness, and CDI it should all plug into the rest of the newer sled.
