I just finished putting my new track on and I lifted the rear end and spun the track a bit. It seems like it takes a lot of power to turn the track. When I let off the gas the track stops right away, almost like the E-brake is on. I can hardly turn the track by hand when it is not running as well. I think the problem is in the drive system (Chaincase or something) because the tracks moves free back and forth. Does anyone know what could be happening? I put new bearings, seals in the chaincase and the track is a 136" cobra, brand new. Thanks

Mine did the same thing. Your track may be a little too tight. The factory spec of 25mm deflection with 21 lbs pull is on the tight side. Try loosening your axle and going two full turns on the adjusters, then back tighter by one turn for a net of one turn looser. You may have to readjust once it's run for a while.

normal.
a new track is stiff, it will break in & loosen up. you need to put miles on it. forget the factory adjustment spec. always keep a trail track snug. just sitting on the seat will compress the suspension enough to loosen the track.

That's normal,.. I put a new camoplasts on my 95 Vmax 600 and my 97 Vmax-4 a couple years back. I noticed a huge difference on the 600,...it seemed less powerful and the gas mileage suffered because the track was new, tight, and stiff. Somewhere between 200-400 miles of break in and things were back to normal.

When I looked at it last night I noticed it was set too tight, so I loosened it and spray some WD-40 on the sliders (clipped every third, rubber on plastic=friction). It seems to work much better now, I just need some snow ;)!
