As stated, I'm in the market for a second sled. I found a guy on a local forum with 2 for sale:
1995 Yamaha 600 VMAX. 3306 miles. Runs pretty good. Tough to start for the first time in the winter but after that, it starts after a couple of pulls. $1200
1997 Yamaha 700 Triple VMAX XTC. 2492 Miles. It starts but doesn't run right. Im sure it's nothing serious but tired of ****ing with the thing and they're both in the way. $1200

Thoughts? Reliablity? I am somewhat mechanically inclined so I can do some basic repairs if need be. I have an 2000 SRX 700 but don't know much about either of these models. I thought that the 700's didn't come in XTC's until '98 but I could be wrong.

700 Yamaha 100% More parts avilable, easy to work on, easier on fuel/oil than the 600, more power, better suspension, etc.

The tripple is a much better sled. If not running right 1200.00 is threehundred too much. If easy fix.

Ya, the 700 unless something serious is wrong with it. $1200 is okay if it really is an easy fix. It is a little much if you need a complete rebuild.

I have a 97 700SX for $1500 - needs nothing and is really clean, 7900 miles but was totally gone through at 7000, or my moms mint 99 500 DLX for $1750.

offer 1000 on the 97, the 95 600 isn't a bad sled but consumes a lot of gas, and isn't the best ride for a buddy you want to get into the sport.

However a 700 might be bigger then you want for a friend.

I also agree the 95 is too much i paid 600(us) for the DX in my sig and it runs fine just put 150 into a track and some suspension bearings and good to go.

which sled

'97 over the '95. Better suspension and too much for the '95. The triples are superior to the twins. If you do go with the '97, take the carbs. apart and give them a good cleaning. Pay particular attention to the pilot jets, or the idle will be poor.
