check to see if they are in spec I would say there probably not.

Have them measured to see if the critical dimensions are still within the specs.. Post the measurements on this forum along with pictures of the pistons. I am sure the engine builders will advise you based on the info. you post. If the pistons measure within specs and show no signs of scoring, then I would reuse them for another 3000 miles.

IMHO If you're this far into it just replace them.
The bearings take a beating too. Measure all the parts.

i'd definately check your specs, but 5000 miles isn't alot, i bet your still in spec, but then again i blow @ gambling

Definitely measure the pistons and check them over carefully. Re use them if they are within the specs......the new pistons from Yamaha are about $140 each!!!!! I am about to rebuild the topend of an SRX engine with 13,000 miles. I have run Amsoil synthetic oil in the engine since the 2nd tank of oil. If the pistons are within spec., I am going to reuse them.

Im going to help a buddy and do the top end on his srx with at least 8k on it. It will be getting pistons, as the srx pistons have been know to crack at the skirt and drop into the case. Im not sure if the Viper has any issues with that or not.

never heard of srx pistons having issues. anyone know the difference between the srx pistons and the viper pistons? boost port in different location? i never measured/inspected each one to see any differences. just know the part #'s aren't the same.
