i just put on a 151x15x2 inch track on my -98 srx 700 with 8 tooth drivers, anyone got a clue about proper gearing for it`? i want i to work well i powder....

Thats a lot of track!
I would suggest you are going to want to end up with over a 2:1 final ratio.

Some possibilities:

20/37 = 1.85 x9/8 = 2.08:1
21/40 = 1.90 x9/8 = 2.14:1
20/40 = 2.0 x 9/8 = 2.25:1

For the deep stuff, with 8 tooth drivers ,I would start with 21/40 gears and adjust from there.

thanks man, btw whats the original gearing? (im placing an order and aint got the sled nearby)

A stock 1998 SRX was geared 23/37. You can find that info in the Snowmobile Tech section.
Also use the "search" function and type in "NEW TO A 151"
Lots of good info there!

okey thanks guys, since you seem to know what youre talking about, my next question is:

as im going change the gearing, how should i set it up so that i dont have to buy a new chain or shorten it, whats the proper setup for a 151" with original chain??

im sorry if its a stupid question, but i have to ask :D

You can use your original 70 link chain with 21/40 gears.
Point of interest:
The mountain Vipers came with 21/40 gearing 70 link chain but the Viper uses "HYVO" gears and chains. CAUTION you CAN NOT mix + match the HYVO components with the 1998 gears + chains!!! But you can change ALL your components as a set with the VIPER ones + then you would have the same Hyvo gears + chain as the Newer SRXs + Vipers for ease of parts replacements....Just a thought since you are buying new parts anyway.
