No spark = bad cdi box or bad coil / bad stator. Make sure power is everywhere it needs to be, does the electric start work?

Here is a link to a good thread to read, too.

Hi there,
thanks for the info...okay..I have replaced coil with new one from Yamaha, head light and tail light light up when I pull it over, but still no spark. So what is left?
CDI box?
Is there any way to test it?

I just went through my 96 Phazer II with the same problem. There is a whole procedure of what to test in sequence when you have no spark. It starts with checking the spark plug gap and continues through the caps, Ignition coil, master and handle bar switches, etc, etc, with an Ohm meter checking to see that everything has +- proper resistance. On my sled, everything was fine. The problem was that my TORS switches were out of sync between the handle bar and the butterfly on the carb. Do you have spark if you barely pull the throttle? Is your butterfly on the carb at full rest, and on the TORS switch? If these are out of sync, it will short the CDI. = no sparky....
