Well another guy hooked on Yamaha. Sold my Vmax this weekend. Going to miss the old sled. I put on over 8000kms and only failed me once. Not bad considering what I put it thru.
Now for the hard part. Finding a suitable sled for my son. I'm sure once we find one we'll have a great time tinkering on it and driving with him. Then it will be another one hooked on Yamaha

97 redheads had a bad reputation of losing the mag side bearing and mine lived up to that reputation.

not all of them failed, there's many out there with 10k going strong yet,i recommend anyone with a original '97 to up the oil ratio, sorry you had problems, yamaha is not known for engine problems on a stock well maintained sled.stein700sx said:97 redheads had a bad reputation of losing the mag side bearing and mine lived up to that reputation.

Not saying all 97's are going to blow up.The 97's had a weak point on that bearing thats why in 98 Yamaha changed it. In the 8000kms and 8 years that I owned the sled it only went home on the trailer once which is better than some of my other riding buddies. I only read about fogging the motor for storage 2 years ago. So the first 6 years the motor was neglected. Plus I did not drive it much in the last 2 years since I picked up the Viper. Only sold this one so I could free up room and cash for a smaller cc sled for my son.
