My brother's skid in his 2000 SRX 700 is trashed(broken). It seems to be cheaper to find a used skid then try to fix it. We've looked for used skids and they aren't cheap and if they are the shipping to Canada is way to much.
A bunch of people have told us to upgrade, to an edge suspension or something different then the No-Action.
Do any of other better suspensions from Yamaha's bolt right in?
If we go to another manufactures skid will fabrication be required to make it fit and bolt up?
Thanks a lot. I have pics of the skid posted on HCS

You can long travel the stock skid with Viper shocks or swap out the skid completely... most skids fit in the tunnel fine, you just have to redrill for the new mounting holes and add backing plates for support, use the drive axle and the top of the tunnel for measuring references and do a little research on the skid you choose to see if moving the locations a lil would help with traction/transfer... You will also want to look into modifying the front suspension on an SRX to match your taller travel rear suspension... I have swapped a Ski Doo SC3 out of an 05 Renegade X and a Polaris Edge skid out of a 02 XC800, I favor the Edge more but am still tweaking the SC3, it was my first swap and I set the skid back too far so everything is tightened up too much...

Sc10111 is a good repacement for a srx.10 inches of travel so the rear end will not be up in the air as mutch as a 12.
Moveing the front brackets back and rerivoting them is the only mod.I worked from the rear holes for the right measurement and got it right the first time.

hey bluewho, do you have any pics with the new suspension?
Have you done anything with the front?
thanks

I would go with the edge. but if you need any parts I have a bunch of srx/viper skid parts id almost give away.
There are a lot of suspensions that will work better then the No-Action skid. You should be able to pick up a good used skid for $2-300 US. I went with a Cat skid and am very happy with the ride. Quality of the skid was a little disappointing, but it was in rough shape when I bought it.

I have a good line on an RX1 skid. I have a few more questions about suspension.
Will a pro-action from an 03 RX1 bolt right into a 2000 SRX?
How much more travel does the RX1 skid have over the SRX? How will this skid effect the handling and traction?
Why does the RX1 rear axle have 3 rear wheels where are the SRX has 4? Is there a benefit for this?(four seems better to me)
Thanks again Matt

yes the skid from the 03- RX1 should bolt right into your SRX.

is the 03 rx1 skid any better than 2001 srx stock skid, i know the 03 shocks are not rebuildable, but i wana run viper shocks

Can anyone answer any of my other questions?

-RX1 has 11.5" and the srx has 8" or 8.5"
-They should transfer about the same, the rx1 skid may actually transfer a little better with the adjustable rods and added suspension
- you will probably notice a little more ski pressure but with adjustments it wont be a big deal and I believe there was a guy awhile ago selling extensions for the front shocks to go with longer travel rears, this would help with the ski pressure but most guys leave the fronts stock
-no idea on why they went with 3 over 4 wheels, cant see it being an issue really

I'm fairly sure the RX-1 is just a plain old long travel (SXR/Viper) vs. the short travel SRX.
I can't say what effect long traveling the rear and not the front will have 'cause I long traveled the front first on my '01 SRX. Looking back, I would have kept the Extra-10 out of my XCR and stuffed it into my SRX but I ended up selling the XCR and purchased a Viper skid from a member here.
I think the higher powered sleds would come standard with four wheels out back. My 500 Indy came with three but my XCR came with four. It was standard practice to add the fourth when studding.
Perhaps Yamaha marketing figured the target audience for the SRX would be studding and RX-1 owners were more mixed. Or maybe the forth just isn't needed as once thought. Just a guess.
If indeed it really isn't needed, adding more rotating weight wouldn't be high on the list of add ons.
One benifit to having a 4th wheel is it prevents the track from flexing in enough to catch the track adjuster, speaking from experience
I added the 4th wheel to my SRX after ripping out two track window dividers. This happened when I jumped the sled and landed on the rear of the skid.

I put an edge skid in mine, added a fourth wheel and its amazing. Rides great and looks sweet.... I cant compare it to anything but the proaction skid i took out.... You can get a used one for a couple hundred bucks.... Good luck!!
