Hey guys!
Well as of right now I got 2 primary clutches... one is already set up for trails... (see sign below for info)
So now I got a comet 108exp sitting doing nothing right now and I was drinking one night and it poped in my head when talking about sleds... figured I could use my xtra clutch and tune it for drag's and lake runs or something...
Is it worth to take the time and have 2 different clutch set ups? I do alot of trails but also a crap load of lake runs and plan on going to some drag races for the hell of it... im about to go pick up a 1inch track with 144 studs which I could use for the drags... so that will work much better then my 1.25 ripsaw and 196 studs... for drags anyways...
Would I have to play around with my secondary clutching alot along with the primary or would i only mostly worry about changing the primarys...
I wouldnt mind your opinions... and mayb some preferances on which type of drag set up I could use on the comet...
Im abit confused however.... i dont know exacly how the "helixes" work more or less... does the primary have a "helix" also? or is it just the secondary that holds the helixes?
any help or coments is appreciated!
Thanks guys!

awesome info!... read it all... thanks alot... understand the clutching alot better for sure... though im def going to need to re read some of the info later on...
question... I know I dont have a stock clutch as per Turks tunning tips... so im prob giong to have to have a complete different set up... even if the clutch accepts heel clickers and all that....
Im in the works right now asking bendersrx if he changed the chain case gearings... after that ill have to go from there and maybe some 1 that has experience playing around with aftermarket clutches like the comet108 exp...

you don't have the original primary clutch? so, do you have 1 OEM primary and 1 comet primary? if you don't have a OEM primary, i suggest you sell off or trade off both comets for a OEM primary. you'll be better off.

Right now I got a OEM clutch on the sled with the following set up in my signature (not sure on the weights as bendersrx tuned it in and wasnt able to remember the exact weights it has...
So I just got a Primary Comet laying around... figured I could put it to use and set up 2 different clutch set ups and swap them around depending on what I want...

108exp's are a great clutch, easy to tune, different cam arms are only like 12 bucks apiece..... (back in 2004) springs $12.00,,, Give Spanky's Powersports, INC a call 1-800-230-9258... Tell them size engine aprox. HP and engine RPM,,, They set me up for a 94 Mach1 670, and RPM's were spot on...

awesome thanks alot!... your the first I hear to say "108exp's are a great clutch, easy to tune" lol... most people say junk it and get oem..
Ill give them a call and see what they got...
How much am I looking at aprox for a full clutch set up give or take a decent estimated guess?
i dont think im going to afford it this season but if i can work on it over the season I might be able to give it a test b4 end of the snow hopefully

Well, if your clutch is in good condition,(rollers, bushings, ect.) all you need is the right spring and cam arms,, I'd say around $75.00 including shiping..............

Its brand new more or less with about 2-4 hours of use lol....so I could assume it is in good condition...
thanks for the info... will def have to wait for after xmas to make sure the funds are ok.. still need to go xmas shopping... = s
Would I be better of following one of their set ups or trying out something turk brewed up...

i would run something turk brewed up, before i would run something that comet brewed up. i just don't know why you just don't run one of turk's setups and call it a day. he has a great trail/lake setup for the 700 srx, which would work great for you, seeing as you do both types of riding. i wouldn't bother messing around w/the comet. are you really going to want to switch primary clutches and switch up the secondary setup, in between riding types? when your buddies want you to go out for a ride, are they really going to want to wait for you to change up the clutches? i doubt it. personally, i think you should just run one of turk's setups, or run what the previous owner has your sled setup as and then sell the comet and put that money towards your x-mas shopping. in order to have the best setup for any specific type of riding, is to setup the clutches to be really good for only "that" type of riding. can't have "1" setup that works 100% for every different type of riding out there. turks trail/lake setup is going to be very well spread out between lake and trail for you. my .02

I think thats what it has now... as the clutch I got on it now was tuned more or less by turk and mrviper... (if im correct)
I wasnt going to switch the clutching alot... I just attend the odd drag races here and there and figured why not get another set up and use it once in a while over having the comet collect dust and at the same time give my srx a better shot at winning... my old sled primary clutch cracked.... not going to lie but im paranoid about the clutch now.. and if it did happen again I dont want to spend more money on another clutch when I got this one with no hours on it more or less
The set up I have now is pretty dialed in from what ive heard... it got clocked at 118mph with a (1inch track and 144 studs i think) I prob lost a couple mph with a 1.25 track and 196 studs...
another thing is.. if i do go through with have 2 set ups.. it wouldnt be done right away...
But part of the 1st question was def.... is this even worth my time to get 2 set ups... even if it consists of only using the other set up 1-3 times a year...

Im def keeping my comet... I payed too much for it to get rid of it... Hopefuly turk could help me out with a set up once I figure out how long the drags are I think they are 660... but not 100% sure yet... a prefab clutch kit is alrite from what ive read but if you are able to "tune one in" then your more then set... and since I prob could get some help from bendersrx along with it too im not too worried... and I def want to learn how to do this type of stuff... no more paying mechs for me... unless i really need to go see one
So i am def going to compare the set ups once i get it going... and I might try and get a extra secondary... so that way its just remove clutches... and instal 2nd set... shouldnt take long at all to do...
