I've seen more and more availability of trail maps for use with gps. Honestly, I'm pretty ignorant about them but curious. For those that have them, how easy and practical are they to use while snowmobiling and what else can you use them for? Is it the same one you would use in your car? What do oyu look for when buying one? How much does a decent useable one cost?

I have 2 Garmin Rino's. One is a 520 and other is 110. 111 is black in white.110 was bought use on ebay for 75 dollars. I bought the 530 new ant it was over 300 dollars. 530 is color and has bigger screen. These are both also 2 way radios. If set up correctly it will mark you location on the other guys map. I haven't got the mic and speaker dialed in yet. If any one is broke all they have to do is key up the mic and it will locate them on the map. Three of use this type and the other two use others. We think they are a good Idea. These are water proof and made for out door use.

I use mine in conjuction with a trail map on my tank bag. I have an old Garmin Plus-III mounted in front of my speed-o. I mounted it there to keep it protected in case of a roll-over and don't look at it until I'm stopped anyhow.

It's nice to be able to pin-point my location along a trail (kind of overlaying the map on the GPS to the trail map). I have it hardwired for power but have gone a full weekend (200-300 miles) with four fresh batteries.

i have a Lowrance 3500C this has a 5" color display, I have mapped all of the trails in the Cadilac, irons, wellston areas, I also have mapped areas in the up, and MN. I really like mine. the screen is big enough to see at a glance. I mounted mine permenently in the handlebars area. I like being able to know where you are when boondocking. I feel more comfortable riding longer distances between fuel stops now. Allan

I could definately see the advantage when it comes to getting gas, as most have gas stations in the searchs on them. A big plus in my mind.

I use a Garmin gmap 60 csx I have all my local trails plotted into it and uploaded onto the computer so I can show any one what trails i will be riding that day incase something does happen. I also have the navigation maps istalled to show you where gas and food and lodging is.
