In the Viper manual in the back it shows both the short track and Mnt. Viper specs. It shows that the short track has 9 tooth drivers, 38-22 gears, for a ratio of 1.73. It says that the Mnt. Viper has 8 tooth drivers, 40-21 gears, and right under that it says it has a ratio of 1.90...but if you look at a chart, 1.90 is for 9 tooth drivers. With 8 tooth, it would actually be 2.14.
Had this thing since new, and just noticed that yesterday. Do they always show the ratio for 9 tooth and expect us to calculate in with 8 tooth, or did they really just make a mistake? Just curious what some of you think...(and really bored).

From an engineering perspective, the gear ratio is the gear ratio regardless of what drivers you have in there. However most non-technical sled heads prefer to talk gear ratio relative to the 9-tooth drivers. You can guess which one the Yamaha engineers use.
With other track pitches and driver options, we should really talk final drive ratio.
I suppose that metric would be inches of ground travel per jackshaft rotation. Boy that ought to confuse them . . .
