I bought this sled (01 SRX) last year. It has a bender silencer and 21/38 gearing. The clutch was in horrible shape. I took the sled to Larry Wiltfang (DFE) go through the clutches. I ended up with a RX1 primary, different springs, helix and his own custom weights. Primary engages 4800-5000 RPM. This sled pulls like crazy if I can manage to hook-up. Top end the big pull is over just before 90mph. I do allot of U.P. riding (long rail grades). I would like to get back 23/38 gearing for sustained faster crusing.

Now, I have a set of aaen pipes and all the stuff they send with the kit. Any thoughts on this kit? Mid-range is supposed to be snappy. I had aaen fax over all the recomendations. I'm supposed to see a 7-10hp increase mid-range and 2-3hp up top. This kit is also 23lbs lighter than the stock setup.
Will I be able to do this with a RX1 primary?

The AAEN pipes are not only quite, but are powerfull. I have these pipes on my 98 along with the AAEN roller secondary with variable pitch helix. These two upgrades transformed a good sled into a monster performer.

the aaen pipes are light and quiet, but i have heard that they give a hp loss. easy way to tell is, run your sled w/current setup, and record rpms. now throw pipes on, rejet as aaen says, and leave clutches alone. if rpms are down, you lost hp and torque. the aaen pipes for the viper, are the same ones for the srx. here's a link to the aaen viper/srx pipes dyno. on a viper which has more aggressive port timing, it only pulled 140 hp. here is also a dyno sheet from the same people on the same dyno, w/a '00 stock srx. the stock srx made more hp and torque, w/the OEM srx pipes, and less aggressive port timing. see for yourself....

i personally would leave the OEM pipes on. plus the OEM pipes have the heat shield to keep the pipes warm, so they are consistent w/making HP and holding rpms.

maybe if you wrap the aaen pipes w/header wrap, that you can see their HP claim???

i have aaens pipes on my srx and they are ceramic coated i like the pipes they work fine for me. the weight savings are great.

I run Aaen tripples on my SRX as well. Olav Aaen told me the SRX pipes are the same as the Viper pipes except they are 1" longer in the centre section to bring the peak power down from 9000-9200 rpm on the Viper to approx 8400-8500 rpm to match the SRX. I like them for their weight savings and they are about as quiet as stock.

For those with Aaens on their SRXs:
-what RPM are you running your Aaens on your SRXs
-has anyone tried running them around 8700-8800rpm?

i was told the srx cdi starts pulling timing out @ 8600, if thats true wouldn't it fall down @ 8700-8800?

Yes the CDI advance on the SRX starts falling off quickly above 8500rpm...I think thats why the Aaens were set up the way they were. But I thought someone might have tried putting a +2 advance key in and running a few 100 rpm higher.
I have ceramic coated my Aaens over the summer and plan on trying them at a little higher rpm with a timing advance key. lol! I just am unable to leave well enough alone!

I am fortunate to have our piped, ported 700SX that is configured the same as my SRX[reverse, same 144" track .viper shocks ect] as a test mule to compare against, when I make changes. So far I can not beat the SX in a drag race or top end but I am working on it!

Bob , i have been considering doing the same thing to my 600srx and maybe using a sx (8ch) box and harness rather than the key . I have aaens here aswell and even if i did not gainn a hp , the weight savings would be a great advantage under acceleration . Im not sure what then timing difference is between the 8df and 8ch boxe's , it may cost me some aluminum ,(always does "but I guess one cant succeed without failure " .....by the way our sxr 116.1/2000ft. does not get beat by to many "stock!!!!" srx either. Only by the stock one that is 20 lenghts ahead of the other stockers....lol....

I have a set of Aaen pipes for my srx sitting around and I just bought a viper and was wondering what these pipes would perform like on it. If the srx pipes are 1 inch longer than viper ones to bring the peak horsepower down like Sideshow Bob says then what would happen if you put the srx pipes on a viper?

You will run into issues with mating the pipes and flanges to the cylinders as the cylinder's exhaust port shape and length are different between the Viper + SRX. Also lowering the RPM on a piped Viper brings it right down into the most avanced part of its ignition curve....could lead to serious Detonation.

I knew about the flanges being different and thought I could just get the ones for the viper. But what you said about running the viper at the lower RPM being risky kind of scares me. I think I'll just forget about it and maybe look around for a set of pipes made for a viper.
srx hair... Yea thats probably what I'll do someday... put them on the srx. That was originally the plan, just havent done it yet!
