I just replaced the stock Yokohama track on my SX700R. It had 96 studs up the middle. The track was in great condition except that at least a third of the lugs are torn along the outer edges. What tears them out there?

that happens alot. It also does not help it is on the outside of the idler wheels.
This is where they pull out the most.

Mostly off-trail junk! Sticks, logs, rocks, you name it.On trail, rock solid Icy conditions, icy corners etc. Your track is basically 10 years old, so your doing pretty good if just the outer lugs are getting bad.
I dont believe anything out of the ordinary is causing it.

riding on 1 ski alot does that too, as well as rocks and other debris.

Thanks, we do have a bit of a rough go from our house out to the trail system when we ride local.

Lots of track spin is a big factor in my opinion, when you are spinning hard and hit anything solid off comes a lug. Some of this is inevitable, but I've always tried to keep this in check and have minimal lug damage even on tracks with lots of miles.Spinning is just wasted energy once its spinning wildly anyways and if trail riding just makes the trail rough and bare alot quicker, my 2 cents anyways.

Think of it like the rear axle on your car when you turn sharp one wheel is spinning faster than the other, on your sled it is similar not as bad as drastic as your car but the same principlethe one side drags more than the other, in loose snow that doesn't matter, on ice, drit, rocks etc and can cause the lugs to start to break apart a little very common.
