I have a 1999 Vmax and the clutch is not engaging till 4500 rpm. My viper engages at about 4000 rpm. So do I have a clutch problem on the Vmax? What parts would need replaced? I noticed Yamaha sells a clutch tune up kit, would this be what I need??

Probably not a problem at all(but remove and check things out)someone could just have it set up that way, could have lighter fly weights or heavy preload spring you just need to tear into it.
I think its bone stock from what the 65 yr old original owner told me. I thought it was suppose to engage at 4000 or a little less rpms. I will tear into it soon just to make sure things are clean. What should I be looking for while Im in there as this will be my first time ripping into a snowmobile clutch.

grooves then the riding surface in the weights or flat spots in the rollers or bad bushings in the weights, rollers, etc.
