Hey Guys,
Need some advice. I have a 2001 sxr700, mostly stock with the freebe cheep mods, nothing crazy. In short, I'm a trail rider, however I fly P3's for the navy, and they sent me to Whidbey Island Washington. Now I need a mountain sled. Looking for a set up to get me buy without buying a sled. I think a 144" would be OK...? Thoughts? Is it too much work? I have all the tools and know how etc. Maybe someone has a set up for me, I will need it all, skid, extensions, track and drives. I'm all about good deals. Thanks in advance for the advice.

I have a skid out of a 2002 MMax I can part with but shipping from Detroit will be pricey.

If I were you, I would not go shorter than a 151". I would probably buy the tunnel and rail extentions from Tom Hartman at hartmaninc.com. As far as a track goes try to find a good used track to keep the cost down. I picked up a 156" track for $250 last year that was barley used. Tom will be able to give you a complete setup from the gearing, clutching and jetting. If it is your first time removing and replacing a track it will take you probably a couple days to get it all back together. There are plenty of people on this forum that can answer any questions that you have. Tom will also send detailed instructions with the kit. good luck

Are you planning on keeping your sxr?
I would sell it and buy a mountain sled that is ready to go.
Actually we are moving next summer from ontario to bc and can't wait to try out mountain riding!
Just my 2 cents.
Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks for all your help guys, Tom didn't recommend me going any longer than 144" I found a used 2" camo track for 300. Tom is going to send me the kit. anyone got the gearing and drivers? that would save me a little money.

What gearing did he recommend? I have the stock bottom gear off of my 04 mtn viper if it fits. It is a 40 tooth, i think the stock on your sled was a 39. I don't think it will help you out very much, but if you want it let me know. As far as drivers go, I am guessing you want Anti-ratchet drivers. I got mine from Mtn performance because they were a little cheaper, and they are local so it saved me on shipping. I don't know if you will find a good used set, if it were me i would just buy new ones. what did you get the track off of? If it is old mtn viper track, you will have to take it to someone to punch out the remaining windows in the track to run anti ratchets. If that is the case i wouldn't even mess with the anti ratchets.

Rut Roo, I'm pretty sure it is off a Viper. SH*&. I think it is closed every 3rd window. Well what are my options now. Mountain Viper drivers? thanks

Punch the closed windows out and run the anti-rachet drivers. Don't worry about it not being fully clipped, it will hold up fine. Easy enough to do with a hammer and a peice of square tube sharpened on one end.
