duty tax

not a direct srx/viper ? but since its for parts for my srx i'm putting it here
has anyone bought used parts from canada and shipped them into the states, do you have to pay duty tax, if so how much. i tried to look up on the us customs website and all i got was a headache

stagg i ship parts daily to the u.s. and never herd back from 1 customer about duty tax ...and im sure i have shipped 1000 parts ...

Yeah we are the "lucky" ones that get charged the tax/duty when we buy parts from the US but as for anything going the other way you don't have to worry.

9 times out of 10 I don't have to pay duty from US to Canada. That is shipping it though not picking it up.

EXACTLY... It may be slower but is a hell of a lot cheaper!!

haha, the DUTY aka canadian dry PHUCK only applies when coming from US to Canada it seems

Avoid UPS at all costs!!!

It's not a 'duty', it's a 'brokerage' (import broker) fee. UPS is stupid high ($50 or more), USPS is $5. Most stuff is duty free but everything will be charged GST and any PST plus a brokerage fee. UPS is making PILES of money on brokerage fees that the Post Office can do for $5.

it seems lately that anything under $40 doesnt get any fee anything over Ive been geting the usually $5 plus tax.

AND NEVER EVER USE UPS!!!!!!!!!!

what i find odd is i use purolator.com to ship states, and they hire ups from the border to its destination, and no duty tax whatsoever.....use ups to canada and your gonna want to strangle the delivery dude @ your door.....

There is a service for guys that are near enough to the border. UPS stores on the UPS side in border towns will accept deliveries in your name for a $5 fee. They are supposed to call you when the package arrives. It costs you $5 dollars at the Store, plus toll at the border, and a chance of no taxes if they wave you through. Just don't do this on black Friday or similar cross border shopping day.

This is a copy of the email we got a couple years ago from our local store:

Thank you for the inquiry. We do offer Hold for pick-up Service here at the store, where in, you can have the packages shipped to our store and pick it up later.

This service is free of charge for our mailbox customers. Otherwise, there is a charge of $5 /box for receiving the packages and holding it for first 48 hours and after that $2 /box for each additional day.

Please ask the shipper to put your name and phone number on the label, so that we know the package is for you when it arrives at our store. Once here, we will call you to notify you about the package. The address to be used for shipping is :

Hold for "Your Name"
"Your phone number"
