I am changing all six of the tie rod ends on the steering linkage on my 2000 SRX. The heim type rod ends at the spindle were easy to remove. How are the other 4 ends removed from the bracket at the bottom of the steering post and the ccenter pivot? They seem to be threaded in but I cannot get them to budge. Thanks!!

they are all threaded in. if the outer ones at the spindles were right hand thread the inners are left hand. the same goes for the ones from the steering post to the bell crank, one is right hand the other is left hand thread. this is where they thread in to the tie rods. the nut that attaches them to the brackets are all right hand thread.

Thanks! I was able to remove the tie rods end from the tie rods by unthreading them, they were either RH of LH threads as you stated. I was able to remove the nuts on the tie rod end posts on the bell crank and the bottom of the steering post. Are you saying the tie rod end posts are threaded into the bell crank? I left the parts soaking in penetrating oils to help free them.

nope the ends arn't threaded in to the bell crank, its been a while but i think those ends are a taper fit like the ball joints on a car . thread the nut back on so the stud don't mushroom out and give them a smack with a hammer to break the taper fit. a little heat might help also.

OK, thanks. I have them soaking in penetrating oil. I give them a little heat tomorrow and try pressing them out. They sure are in there tight!!!
