Just tried 2 new cleaning products

, which you can buy at any auto parts store, i get it in concentrated 5 gallon pails from my distributor, and you can mix it like 10 oz to like 32oz of water, but we go through 5 gallons a month

If thats the case, it doesnt work very well. I have tried every automotive aluminum cleaner and they dont do a very good job of cleaning under the hood of my srx. Im still searching for something that melts awaythe belt dust, greasy haze and gets in all the nooks and crannies. Is that product sledbrite alumaklean??????
 
the aluminum cleaners, any of them, are nothing more than hydroflouric, sulfuric, and phosphoric acids, you have to clean of the grease and grime with a cleaner first or they wont react with the aluminum, you would need the first product he used
 
Stagg55 is correct. The chemicals that clean and brighten the aluminum will not dissolve grease and oil. I used the first Sledbrite product, belly pan cleaner, then followed it with a hot water rinse. I also pressure washed the frame, dried it off using compressed air then soaked it down with the Sledbrite aluminum cleaner. I repeated this process a couple of times until all aluminum surfaces were clean and bright. There is no magic all in one cleaner. Once the aluminum surfaces were clean of oil and grease, the aluminum cleaner worked very well. On the right side of the aluminum frame, underneath the chaincase, was black with brake dust which would not come off with pressure washing. The aluminum cleaner did a great job of lifting this crud off the aluminum. I took about 1/3 gallon applied by a spray bottle to get the aluminum to the point where I was happy with its appearance.
 
another cleaner

My wife brought some Mr. Clean with Frebreeze home that was on special at Wal-Mart for a $ 1.00 a bottle. Cleaned up the under hood of my 4 year olds Mini-Z. This works well to remove dirt and grime and leave a decent smell too. Low cost and seams to work well for general cleaning and degreasing.

I dont dissagree at all. These damn Yamahas are so pretty under the hood when new with all the raw casted aluminum but every single one I have ever had is a bear to get to even come close to looking "clean" again once stained with belt dust and general grime. Its tempting to polish everything but that presents another challange of maintaining besides I like the raw casted look of the cylinders and bulk head, etc....
