Stock clutch engagement for 2000 Vmax 600 triple

I just bought a 2000 vmax 600 triple in great condition. It has 2200 km's on it and was a one owner (55 years old neighbor) that had it dealer serviced every year. It's my first sled and I noticed the clutch engages at about 5000 RPM. Just curious what the engagement should be.

I think this is the first year I'm praying for snow early.

How did you test engagement? Did you have the sled on snow & slowly give it throttle or on a stand? Big diff on how it engages.
 
Check it on snow when sled is warmed up. Should be about 4k rpm when sled starts to creep ahead.
 
We have snow! I was just out on the sled driving it around the house. Poor neighbors. :)

Anyway the clutch does engage at 5000 on snow with the engine warmed up. I tried it multiple times. I've been reading through the factory service manual on clutch specs and have checked my springs and belt. My primary spring is yellow-green-yellow and my secondary is more pinkish than red.

The manual says to adjust the engagement rpm to 4,000 ± 200 r/min if Out of specification ® Adjust the primary sheave.

I can't find where the manual tells me how to adjust the primary clutch. I could check the sheave distance. If the belt was worn or stretched or the sheave distance to small I would imagine the engagement RPM would increase?
 
with a 8DN belt and 8dg fly weights stock yellow-green-yellow add 4.5 gram(17.2mm)rivets to the tips of all three fly weights should bring r's down,try that if not enought can put the 4.5's in the heel too of the weight.

how are you on top end on a long pull?? whats rpms??? shouldnt be more then 83-8500..
 
I haven't had a chance to try it out on top speed or at any speed really. Just around the yard. I have a new stock belt I'm going to try put on tonight and test it out. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the info.
