yes, the hand held units work, basically you will have an electronic map that will tell you exactly where you are on the map. I personally like a GPS which is permanatly mounted with a large color screen. Mine is 5" display. I can glance down while running and know exactly where we are, if a corner or intersection is coming up, bridges, or approximatly how far away from town or fuel stop. This can all be done without stopping and getting off of sled and looking at the map. The downfall to a pemenant mount is not having with you without the sled. Al

ok i got it. now what do i need to add to it??? i just want northern VT trails etc
