Bad stator?

I have a /98 700 vmax...the first thing to go were the lights now the sled starts hard and runs horrible misfiring,backfiring, my question ........is this a bad stator?

Check the wiring harness that goes under the engine. Inspect it carefully for any rub thru's.

you saying the lights went first makes me also say check the wire harness. You will have to unplug some connectors and pull it from under the motor, take off the tape and start checking all wire and individually tape them and then retape the entire area as found........

How many miles on the sled??? my stator went out on my 97 SX at around 5500. But never lost the headlight.
