why not stock tunnel extensions?

when people are extending their tracks to a 136", why don't you just use the stock '04 viper mountain tunnel extension? everything would rivet right up! i know the '04 mountain track was a 144" so does that mean the extension is essentially too long for a 136" to look good under it? why buy from mt perf or hartman or where ever when you can buy stock and bolt right up? whats your thoughts?

It's the way to go. All the extensions are too long in my opinion. The problem with the Vipers unlike my ZX is that you have the coolant hose to cover up, so unless you're going to make custom covers and hoses you're stuck with, basically a 141/144 extension when about 3" shorter would be better.

My two 144 SXs + my 144 SRX[see my post "Pics of My 2002 SRX" were all extended from 121" with Yamaha parts. Makes it real simple with a factory finished look.

I used a mountain max tunnel extension, just painted it blue (MY srx IS '99). it bolted right up, mint!

but would a mountain max ext bolt right up to a viper chassis? without mods?

One thing to consider when using the Viper Mt. tunnel extension is that is does not allow you to use a larger OEM rear heat exchanger. It works great if all your sled needs is the rear crossover tube, but if you want to use a SRX style rear heat exchanger for added cooling capacity you will need to use a different tunnel extension or use a different style top mount heat exchanger.

thanks. would the viper mtn extension look silly with a 136" sneaker underneath it? would the ext be too long then to look right?

You can also use the Mountain Viper heat exchanger which is similar to the SX heat exchanger. The Mountain Viper heat exchanger, however, has the right size tubing to hook up to the short track Viper's plumbing. That should be more than adequate unless you have a modified engine / triple pipes. So you are not stuck just using a crossover tube.

You're missing what I'm saying, so I'll re-phrase. There isn't a 136" extension for a Viper. Maximum Performance did make one, but they're no longer in business, and IMO it didn't look good anyway. Whether you buy Yamaha or Hartman or Mountain Performance, they are all 141/144 size extensions. So you either
1. leave it short
2. buy what's available which is the 141/144
3. have one custom made and figure out how you're going to deal with covering over the plumbing
4. swap out the tunnel to a custom made one that ditchs the running board coolant heat exchanger and go to an under the tunnel heat exchanger like the Ski-doos have.

It does look a little long, but overall it's not too bad. The solution unfortunately is relatively expensive if you want it 3" or 4" shorter.

And yes the MMax extension bolts right on. I'm using a MMax extension / MViper cooler.

Here's a picture of mine. You'd get a better idea if the sled had been perpendicular to me, but this is the only one I can find right now. Like I said, it's not too bad, but the ZX looks much better, and if I could have found an inexpensive way to lose 3" or 4" I would have.

Here's a picture of my ZX. As you notice, much less real estate behind the seat. Too bad it's down in the snow as much, but again only picture I can put my hands on at the moment.

I used a 2000 MM 141" tunnel extension along with the factory hose covers. I only have a 136" so the extension looks a little long but not that bad. The 141 is not too much shorter than the 144. Here is a pic, kind of hard to tell from the angle.

brothers 2002 viper. we did get the srx tunnel cooler into the viper 144" extension. bumper is from an srx and the hose covers are from a mountain max. works really well.

you only can get the srx cooler in if you are going 136". if going longer, i reccoment the viper mountain cooler.

That's a good picture of the overhang on the Viper. Too much for my liking, but as I said, unless you spend the bucks it's the only option available. I though the SRX cooler and the Viper cooler were about the same. There's no way the Viper cooler I sold would be hidden as the one on this sled apparently is.

I was in the same boat when I went 136 on my Viper, I didnt like the 144 extensions, so I went custom, I was worried about getting enough snow up to the SRX heat exchanger with the 144 extension too, so I came up with this... must be ugly as hell to everyone else or blend right in 'cuz i never hear anything about it, lol!

the coolant bleed screw for the srx rear cooler is under the piston bone sticker. if i had taken the picture while kneeling, you would see the cooler.

below is the only other pic i have of his. it is without the mountain max hose covers so you get the idea of how we got the cooler in there. i stuck it in the fence, not him.

I really like the way it tips up at the back. Very Unique! Its very hard to be different + have a "One Of" look.
