Viper Mountain tunnel rivet size

Hi there!

A few days ago I discovered that the tunnel extension is loose on my sled, it seems like all the rivets are loose and I guess it has been rattling for a while.

Does anyone know the size of these rivets? Should I go for the next size rivets?

I figure it is stainless steel rivets? What type of rivets should I use?

I`d like to buy rivets from a local ironwork-shop but I hear they say that the only thing that will hold up is the Yamaha rivets?

Is this true?

Buying rivets from the dealer takes ages cause they have to order them.

Hmm any opinons?

They are 3/16 I had the same problem and removed them and Install the same size, I did use the Stavex brand got them from DING here or BetheViper has them also.....They are awesome.

See if you can find that brand somewhere there I don't see that you will have a problem...They must sell them somewhere along Europe.

Today I bought some 3/16 steel rivets but I`ve decided not to use them cause today when I drilled out some rivets I discovered that the holes are infact pretty messed up, so I think I have to go oversize.

Does the Stavex rivets come in oversize? Guess I can PM DING or Betheviper.

Figured out it is no point doing it "badly" when you can wait two weeks and get it done properly.

I took a look at the link you posted Nicko and I must say that the stavex rivets looks awesome!

Only thing I wonder is if I should go with steel or stainless steel?
 
I have not seen many rusty oem rivets...I will stick with them since they bite harder also.....

Just my opinion, it doesn't has to be the right one....

Yes, the many of the rivets installed at the factory are zinc coated steel. If you have ever polished a stock tunnel, it usually takes the zinc coating off and then they rust. The steel/steel Stavex rivet is used several places on the sled at the factory. I really like this rivet not only for it's strength but it's hole filling and parts gripping properties are the best I have seen. I like the BS01-00618 because it has a very large grip range (.059" - .354") and still ends up with a low profile bulb.

The stainless rivet they offer looks like a very strong rivet, but I have shied away from them because of galvanic corrosion. However, I have never tested the theory behind this.
