my buddy sunk his sled in like 10 feet of water and we retrived it and now i have it in my garage and i riped the engine out because it is filled with water like hardcore.. i was thinking what is the best way to get the water out? its a 1998 polaris Storm 800.. any intel on this would be nice.. i took out the reeds and tilted the engine and a bunch of water came out from there.. but iknow there still is some in there and i dont want to crack it all open...

first error here wasn't sinking it in 10 feet of water, but rather, retreiving it
couldn't resist, sorry..
I'm certain there will be members chime in who are knowlegeable on this type or revival... tj

sinking
Should of left the Polaris for fish habitat.. Sorry couldn't resist either,
Sunk my old 440 whip years ago when I was young and dumb, I know should have left it for fish habitat. But anyways got it out and drained as much water as we could and got it fired up and let the heat dry it, I mixed up a gallon of gas w/ twice the oil. Had that sled another 2 years and never had a problem. Make sure to drain chaincase, I didn't think of that back then and the next winter the water in it froze and broke chaincase cover into about 4 pieces. Good luck

the main thing is you should have done is gotten the engine running ASAP,should have left it in pulled plugs and pulled your @ss off getting the water out then get it running and running hot with lil extra oil in the gas.

Like Daman said drain it the best you can then heat soak the engine to evaporate any moisture left in cases.. I added a fogging agent into the engine and doubled up oil for awhile also.. Good luck with the seat though!!! It may be a bit hard at times this winter LOL

Besides all of the other things mentioned above, your going to want to get into all the bearings and lube them, pull the seat and set it next to a heat source ASAP and dry it out as absolutely dry as you can get it or you will not like the smell after getting it out of storage next year, pull apart and blow out all of the electrical connectors you can find and then spray them clean with electrical contact cleaner (alcohol)

Put a sheet of plywood on the seat and run it over with your vehicle to get the water out. Take the cover off it first.
Then get it by a fireplace for a few days. It will dry.

hey
For the seat your going to want to take off the seat cover and hang the foam to dry nice and high. If you don't get all the moisture out of the seat on a cold day you'll be sitting on a rock...I know this how... lol

I sunk a few sleds in my day , one time on my old trail twister after i pulled it out of the gravel pit. I just pulled the plugs and cranked it over till water was out then took the caps off the carbs and de iced them, put it back together and fired her up and drove her home! same gas , and it was left in the water overnight. Incredible! ran great for years afterward. four strokes probably would'nt do that!

putting the seat next to a dehumidifier works wonders to pull the moisture out quickly

The bigges mistake is to leave sled to dry. Corrosion starts immeadictly when u lift sled from water.
just put sled to its side
remove pipe and plugs
drain carbs
pull starter rope until no water comes from plug holes
new fuel with oil and 1% antifreeze
engine running and drive it really hot and i mean hot. It takes 10 minutes after sled is out of water and its running again.
If you dont use premix u have to drain oil pump / tank too
Belive me i`ve sunk more than dozen times
