Did some trading and ended up with my BIL's custom SRV. It's been bored .030, oil injection deleted, Boyeson dual stage reeds, ported intake with a single 38mm Mikuni roundslide with a 370 main and 40 pilot- needle clip in middle. Exhaust is stock except for a different silencer. The sled has been stripped down of 30lbs of weight, motocross style bars with twist throttle....
So anyways he's very good with 2-strokes and tuning but just gave up on this one to move onto another project. It starts first pull, idles just fine but pops and backfires if you blip the throttle. Riding it the low to midrange is hesitant, popping and sputtering but once you get into the higher part of the midrange it just takes off like a rocket. No joke it out accelerates a ZRT600 without a doubt.
He spent a lot of time playing with different combinations of jetting and still can't get the midrange where it should be. Even went back to the stock carb and was having problems. SO---I'm convinced it's the pipe. Thoughts? Ideas?
Checked for leaky seals, nope. Also the plugs are running a bit wet, excellent color. Intake boot is new as well.
