Stuck Primary on SRX

Hi guys just came in from the garage and have to do some research about pulling off my primary. :o| :o| I can't seem to get the F*@ker off!!!! I have used the grease trick and I'm having no luck. I did some research and some people heat them up correct!?! Are you heating up between the sheaves??? How hot can I get it?? This is really pissing my off!!!!!! I take them off once a year for cleaning so it hasn't been very long. I know better then to put anything on the shaft!!! What the!!!!!!!! Please someone chime in with some ideas!!!!! I don't want to think about bringing out the cutting torch!!!!!! #$%&* #$%&* #$%&*
 
Ok what have you tryed already,do you have a good quality puller? oil the threads and lay into her with the impack???
 
Last year I actually bent a puller last year trying to get mine off by just heating it, so I left it until last week when I tried putting water in and teflon taped the puller threads and it popped off really quite easy without even heating it at all.
 
Try this correct puller fill with grease tighten puller goodentight then tap puller with a hammer I use a punch and hammer or a socket and an extension make sure not to hit clutch. then retighten and repeat. walkaway and it will pop off.

Lots will tell you not to use and impact or hit with hammer, but ive done it and I know otheres and its fine just dont use a sledge some times you have no choice.
 
ok I am in for the night now try a couple more times and still can get it.....I will try it your guys way tomorrow..Nothing like a quick job:). It is snowing now and lots more to come. I was going to rip around tonight but I guess not!!! Oh well winter is here!!!!
 
Oh it is sitting with ALOT of tension on that puller right now.....hopefully I will wake up with a loose clutch in the morning.

X2 - A little extra leverage always works for me.

I used an impact for years without issue until I rattled a balance weight off someone else's flywheel and didn't know it until it chewed up the case.

Do I know for sure the impact was the cause, not really. But I couldn't argue the fact that I drove it into the garage and the clanging going on behind the cover started when I lit it after installing the freshly overhauled primary.

If a two foot extention doesn't work, go to three, then four foot and don't be intimidated with all the force you're using. I let the clutch holder rest against the bellypan and reef on the bar with both hands.

x2 on not using a impact , they can do more damage than good. sure it might get the clutch off but you can apply just as much torque with a long bar on your rachet. if your crank was out on the bench would you beat on the bearings with a hammer? cus thats what using a impact is like. like sasksrx said put the sled on its side ,fill clutch hole with water, put some teflon tape on the threads of puller to seal them and it should come off.
 
Well I loaded it up with grease one more time and cranked her down and boom she finally popped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;):D :WayCool: The only problem is my puller looks like a pretzel!!!! Oh well, chalk it up for another trip to the dealer!!!!!

Better try turning your clutch bolt in and see if it wrecked your crank threads. That happened to me when I bent my puller and I had to retap them. If you do, the tap is a 1/2 inch fine thread believe it or not. Its not metric.
 
The entire purpose of adding grease in the primary is to use hydraulics as a means to take the clutch off. With that said, if you put enough grease in the primary, the puller should not even touch the crank which would save you from buying another clutch puller. When a primary doesn't come off, I load the primary so full of grease that grease begins coming out as you insert the puller. Grease is highly incompressible so it should not take too much effort to pop off the clutch. Works every time with a stubborn clutch (in less it is welded). Hope this helps

Thats what I did and it took several trys and finally it popped. The threads seemed good but i will have to take a look tomorrow when I do the rest of the clutch servicing!!!! Thanks for all the advice guys oh and the moral support. It is kind of like a cult following on there...LOL
