I bought an 01 SRX with 2500 miles from Brad Nelson who said he bought it from someone on this site. It has white Slydog skis, bender racing decal on the hood and white hood screens. If the original owner gets this, I would love to know the history of the sled or what work (if any) has been done to it.
Here is the problem: While having trouble starting it we left the plugs partially loose. antifreeze started to bubble up around the plug from the cylinder closest to the exhaust. It eventually stopped so we tightened everything up and ran it. seems fine low end but that same cylinder doesn't seem to fire at high RPM.
We did a compression test and that cylinder registered 100 (other 2 hit 150)took off the head/cylinder and the O-Ring around the head has a very small area that looks a little corroded. (not bad though) Piston and rings look fine.
anyone have any ideas? 17 inches of snow and I'm sitting at home! Damn!
One last question: Does a stock Yamaha piston have a a 1/4 inch hole in the back of it?
any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes there is a hole in the back of the piston your getting coolant in yoour cylinder thats why you are losing power and maybe compression

Could the coolant and compression issue come from the tiny bit of corrosion on the rubber O-Ring that seals the head? The part that is just slightly corroded is only about an inch long.

Could very well be! may be something else also but I am not the one that would know maybe someone else will chime in!

Jessie,
it sound like the o-ring closest to the piston is the one you are having trouble with. Is it cut any place and yes corrosion could cause a leak? 100 psi on an SRX is on the low side.

Clean that corrosion up very well with a new OEM O ring and try it...
The corrosion is from antifreeze leaking bye. Get a new one clean the cylinder and head and try again.
