Have a couple of quick questions about a viper crank. I need to buy a crank for my 02 viper and i have a good set of crank cases. I was wondering if the crank needs to be pressed into the cases or would it be pretty simple for me to install the crank into the cases myself and torque them down?

Yes you can install it yourself BUT you should really know whjat you are doing. Seal the cases togethewr with threebond and use new seals.

Ok anybody have any step by step instructions for this by chance? I've rebuilt motors and did all of that but have never put a crank and cases back together..I was thinking about tearing down a junk srx crank with cases to see how it comes apart and goes back together so I know how to do it.

I put my Viper crank and crank cases together last year. It wasn't too difficult all you have to do is make sure you line up all the little nipples on the bearings in the right spot. If you don't do it right then the cases won't go together properly. Just don't force anything and you should be fine. Practicing with a junk motor wouldn't hurt either!!

Eric, It may be possible to rebuild your crankshaft. There are reputable crankshaft rebuilders available. The engine experts on this site will be able to reccomend someone. A new crankshaft from Yamaha is very expensive.

You definatily can get your crank rebuilt and putting it back in is not hard, just take your time and care as things can break. If you need help or a manual, I can send you the PDF of the manuals. Good luck and let me know...
