A co-worker of mine has a '90 Exciter. I haven't looked at it but he said it will start and purr like a kitten, and run flawlessly for the first 10 minutes or so. Then, it will die like you turned the key off, and won't run again until it cools back off. It turns over, so it isn't "cold" seizing or anything. This is pretty strange to me, any ideas out there? Could a stator do something funny like that?

Stator could be getting hot, check the fuel pump, fuel lines, filter float bowls in the carbs. needle and seat in the carbs.. Sounds more like a fuel delivery problem. Might also be overheating. Filter is in the tank on that model I believe.

I think that the stator is giving you a warning it is on its way out. I had an a Cat that was doing the same thing.
