What do you guys use for hood protection and such, I've been running just the cheap foil duct tape on my 600 for years no problem, but the viper I have has slp's and the are close to the hood and wires....On the slp spec sheets says heat tape, not sure what is best...

I've always used foil tape that is used on heating pipes.They sell it @ Menards/HomeDepot etc. in 2" or so wide.Pretty much what they sell or give you in pipe kits.
