Just bought an 01 600mm for my son. It is FILTHY. I am going through it cleaning, replacing hoses, fluid etc... trying to pull the carbs, and cannot get the TORS connector leads off. I feel stupid, but cannot figure it out and don't want to yank hard. Bad things usually happen when I do.

they are just bullet connectors. give a little twist and pull them apart. pull on the rubber, not the wire.

Yup just grip them good and twist then pull, they can be tuff. A little dab of grease when putting back together will aide in the next atemp to remove.

Thanks you guys. I feel stupid. Shortly after the post I started getting a little Western with it, and then saw the "connectors" and pulled them a part (still tough, with all the grime). I had been trying to pull out the actual swtich! Ouch... Still learning. And I even have the book!
Again, thanks.
Again, thanks.

Smart carbs
They dropped them in 99 on the MM600, worked fine for me but the triples are better power, even if you have to learn how to jet...

Going to tear it down
Well, as filthy as this thing is, it appears to probably never had major maintenance done. And since I'm shelling out a cool 3g having my 01 700 rebuilt (and some other work) I decided its hitime to start figuring this stuff out. I've got a Clymer Book which covers all the sleds (mine, this one and the wife has 00 700). I'm a virgin going in for my first plunge. Going to tear it down to inspect the jugs, pistions and all, to see what needs replaced. Yeah, the chain case had so much sludge in it the dipstick looked like it had dog sh** stuck on it. When I took the chains case drain bolt out, it barely dribbled out the oil due to all the buildup in the case. I think I'll take it back apart and do a more thorough inspection of the chain and gears too. The screws on the bottom of the carb are seized and/or the heads stripped out. So I havn't even gotten into the carbs yet, need to get a tiny set of vice grips or something to assist in breaking those buggers loose. Also, the mounting bolt on the air box was missing so it was just bouncing around in there, and the boots from the carb to air box were not attached, not even lined up. And to beat all that, its snowing blankets outside, and all the sleds are either torn apart or in for repairs.
Wish me luck, I'll probably be having some more ignorant questions in the coming days. Again, I'm working on a 01 600 MM triple with 2900 miles. Appears to be all stock except for a Cam. Its new to me, have only driven it up onto the trailer and off the trailer into the shop.
