Finally got to ride the viper i bought in late march. went up to gaylord with a few friends and couldn't have been happier with how the viper preformed. i finished putting the rear heat exchanger which worked perfectly(never overheated once) but did have a problem when i ran over my snowflap in reverse and now neeed a new one AGAIN. i need to get a riser cause it is a little uncomfotable because i ride standing up. Gaylord had soooo much fresh powder that we made first tracks and i'm amazed at what i could get in and out of. so happy with my purchase right now!!

Man sounds great. Still waiting to get my new vipers out. Would have been up there myself but had to work this weekend. If you dont mind me asking how was it putting on the rear heat exchanger? Going to do this mon night to my wifes viper. Any tips or things you would have done diff? Thanks chris

Very easy to do,find a cooler off a SRX,remove your old cross over tube and the new SRX cooler fits right in,most the holes that are in the tunnel will match up,hoses will slip on,then just rivit it in to the tunnel, bleed system and go.

I got to test out my "new to me" viper this wkend too but it didn't go so well. I now need a new cylinder and a new piston :( Snow was good in Northern Wisc. though. Shoulda just brought the SRX, but i had the itch to try out the new viper, oh well i will get her fixed up next week and try it again....

What happen?? that sucks....

^that does suck. as for puttin the heat exchanger on, it was a pain for me because i had basic hand tools with me as well as the rear of the tunnel was bent a little bit so the holes didn't line up at all and my riviting wasn't the best.i now have an itch to go again this weekend.

We did 140 miles today here in northern Iowa. First trail riding on my new 02 viper.
Could not have had a better day. Tons of power and one of the best riding sleds I have ever been on. I am hooked now.

im amazed that all i hear about is how great everyones viper is. just wish it would snow more in michigan!!!

One question. I just bought an '02 Viper. Cannot wait to try it out, but we have NO SNOW. What is the deal with everyone adding in a rear heat exchanger in them?? Can anyone explain? I am guessing they have overheating issues... should it be something I should do?

Most definitely, anyone with a viper should install the updated cooler,do a search there's tones of info on this.

Ya, I just put a rear heat exchanger on last weekend aswell. So far so good. Seems to be solving the problem. Ya, Waters88 vipers tend to run alittle hot when snow conditions are not perfect. I would recommend putting one on. It makes the rides latter on in the year alittle more enjoyable because you don't have to stop every few miles to let her cool down.

yea i think that and a riser is all im doin this winter. but i got the plans of goin to a 144 extension as well as custom paint in the spring. can't wait!!

Well right now, I think I will leave it for this season. I just bought this Viper and put a good used motor in it. I think I will probably sell it at the end of this season and buy an ER version. Mine has low KMs on it and is mint, so I should be able to get a good buck for it.

yea u should, but i wouldn't sell it at the end of the season, thats when a lot of people are not buying. i'd wait till like the fall if ur gona sell it.

Its really only necessary if you are using an aftermarket exhaust due to the increased heat production but the added cooling does come in handy in low snow or icy conditions.

Mine is bone stock and still has overheating issues when snow conditions or outside temp is 30 or above, And the 3 other guys I ride with their Vipers have the exact same issue.
Pipes will just make it worse. Adding the rear exchanger is highly recommended unless your in deep snow 90% of the time. Any early or late season rides your light will be on.

right...i'ts a must IMO

It's just good insurance to know you have the extra cooling capabilities.knowing that your sled is capibile of keeping cool in low snow conditions.

Sounds like someone didn't clean their carbs.Usually what burns them down first time out.
