First trip of the year and the ol fathfull 93 Phazer II ST caught fire. The fire was on the right side by the exhaust/chain case. We had my son's friend riding this machine. Ironically we were in a parking lot asking for directions. My wife and son saw smoke and then flames. We did put it out with alot of snow. The belly pan melted and the side panel is bubbled at the bottom. Could not see a reason for the fire though. No appearant fuel or oil leak. The machine ran perfect for the rest of the weekend. 165 miles later no problems, I guess I am going to fabricate a new belly pan for that area. Really cannot see any issues from outside, but the inside is hollow lol. The thing just won't give up. Al

I trimmed some of the melted plastic, no real issues. I believe I am going to leave the hole. approximatly 2" dia. I really did not see any mouse nest when I serviced the sled. Could have been but the inside is always very clean. The boys may have overfilled the tank upon first fill up. Oh well, it runs great still. Al

During off season storage in a basement, the Phazer's brake disc bore and jack shaft had rusted. On the first ride after braking hard, the disc moved against the fixed puck and the binding of the disc on the shaft did not allow it to move back.
The disc ran hard against the brake and became almost white hot and the heat started a fire. Becaus it was not very clean, there was oil and dirt on the tunnel there and that is what was burning. I got it put out before it did any damage, but there were some tense moments because it was burning right next to the gas tank. After I got it cooled down with snow, the disc was loose on the shaft.
