My Father's '02 700 Viper ER with just a hair north of 8000 miles on it lost an oil pump while out on his annual shake down ride. He took it to the dealer that did his preseason cleaning and what-not (to the tune of $400 that I was not too impressed with).
The loss of the pump took out the PTO cylinder for sure and the middle looks like it is going to need a piston. The dealer wants $1000 for repair on what they call a $500 snowmobile.
The price sounds about right if they were charging for all their labor. However we are (I am) going to do the work. Likely not until mid January.
Got any suggestions as to parts suppliers? Good cylinder repair place too?
He is (I am) likely going to replace all 3 ring sets, gaskets all around, an oil pump and probably 2 pistons.
Thanks in Advance.

Stay tuned Fuzz... Not too sure on parts but I know a reputable guy out your way who does most west side dealers and another on my side of town for the cylinder repairs. I'll check in the morning.
Not that I can think of a way to know if a pump is on it's way out but so much for a $400.00 pre-season check. It'd be interesting to see if they pulled the carbs as part of the check.

Preseason check included a bunch of things and my Dad rushed it in to them. I guess the power valves were sticking (again. They were "cleaned" last season too). I wish he wasn't in such a hurry but with me having a 4 year old and a 1 month old I just don't have the time to wrench on a machine 200 miles north of here.
Now what do you mean by "good used" Daman? Motor? Just Cylinders?
I wish it was my sled cause now would be a good time to big bore the thing. But isn't. And to be honest I would rather drop my "go fast money" into my boat cause 54 was freaking awesome on the water.

Great thanks Steve. I appreciate it. I don't know if he can swing the repair costs yet. He just retired and has had $1000 in extra vehicle expenses in the past 2 weeks and my Mom is ready to burn holes in his neck with the spending.
