Possible purchase of 03 rx1

I have been offered an excellent shape rx1 everything in great shape. for sale for 1700 with a cracked crankcase. no damamge to internals just case. what would the fix on this cost? Cdn$ where could I purchase parts from?? Ontario canada area or lower michigan

Ya, thats the one off Kijiji? I would pass. The chassis has 10,000KM on it.

I bought my Viper with a blown motor for $1400, but it only has just over 4000KM on it, and had a brand new track(ripsaw), sliders, bearings, carbides, and the guy gave me some extra parts to fix my old Vmax. Plus he delivered it.

If interested, I could direct you towards a place here in SW Ontario that possibly has a motor for the RX1.
 
03 and 04 RX1's had ring problems and they use a ton of oil. The complete engine will need to be gone through anyways. You can find perfect running 03 and 04's for $3000.00 now. Jeff Wurl
 
theres no upgrades for the oil use and ring problems? since the engines going to have to be tore down and rebuilt anyways might as well replace any problems and while your doing it not that expensive of work. No i cannot find anything for under 5gs even back to 03! unless im looking in the wrong places??

even looking at the whitestar auction reports, the sleds are still selling 4000+ there and they are usually shit machines with 30000mi on em..

Shawn, you are correct. Please guys, remember we are in Canada. Sleds do not come cheap. RX1's hold some major value up here. Same with Vipers.

The statement that the 03 and 04 RX-1's use a ton oil of is incorrect. A minority of the 03 and 04 sleds consume a lot of oil. There are many owners that report very little oil consumption. I have been following this topic very closely since 2003 on the TY RX-1 site. My RX-1 consumes about 1 qt of oil in 1000 miles. The fix for this problem is to rering the engine with the 2005 piston rings. The piston rings have the same part no. in 2003 and 2004, Yamaha updated the rings to have higher tension in 2005. It will cost about $350 in parts to complete the rering job. This is my spring/summer project.

thanks waters I will send you a pm when I finally purchase it got a buddy here thats big into yammis and gonna get him to come out with me to check it out.. if a crankcase can crack, wat else should I be looking for?? doesnt seem like something that should crack with mileage has to be some problem

Well my guess would be it probably blew up some needle bearings on the crank, and they got thrown around until they cracked it, although it could be LOTS of reasons. Lets say this, with a cracked case, usually needs a new crank as well as who knows what else. Trust me, my Viper came with a cracked case, cost 1200 for a new motor, but it saved alot of headaches not having to do a complete rebuild.

Shawn, what other sleds are you looking for? Only at an RX1? or would you consider something else as well??? I know of some stuff for sale in the area, let me know.

yeah true that. Im really hoping to find a cheap one and beable to do a build and customize it as I go, thats why the whole 1500price tag was a score. Anywhere in ontario I could find cheap sleds? Im not to keen on spending 5gs on a sled then tear it apart i want one i can build up for my personalization.. thanks shawn
