TEAM Secondary on a Viper Mtn?

Hey guys, goin tomorrow to look at/buy a 2003 Viper MTN, with an SLP can, ATTAC, and a TEAM Secondary. I have never dealt with team secondary's on a Yamaha, I always was under the impression that the Yammy clutches work the best. Does anyone know how that clutch works? Most likely I will end up with the stock Yammy clutch I have sitting around. The sled will also have SLP Tripples, and a re-worked head, if that makes a difference. Thanks guys. :2strokes:
 
Well, I do a little bit of everything, but I really want to have the sled perform best in the Mtn's, boondockin/hillclimbin, at about 10,000ft. What kind of adjustability do they have with adding pipes and such? Thanks.
 
honestly, i dont have any firsthand experience with them, but SIDESHOWBOB does, might want to pm him for some pointers, i'm sure he'll post before too long, he's TY junkie like alot of us
 
Well if you dont want the team and want a Yamaha secondary, ill trade you. I have a stock 04 MTN Viper Secondary, stock 45 helix, stock spring.

Just throwing the offer out there for you. I want to try a team roller.
 
This will be my third season using a Team secondary TS-04 on my 144" SRX, all of our other sleds have tuned Yamaha secondaries. [I am primarily a groomed trail/lake rider]
Heres what I have found:

PROS:
-well balanced high quality componants
-so far, maintainance free, no signs of wear
-very easy belt changes
-lots of tuning components available
-no belt slippage problems
-seamless up shift + back shift

Cons:
-no lighter then the Yamaha Secondary
-makes a bit of a wirring noise[I actually like that ...sounds like a blower drive!]
-needs a special compression tool to change springs
-its a new world for tuning [I like the challenge as well]
-I have found it to be a little slower on top speed [after tuning my Team, I swapped our 700SX's trail mods Yamaha secondary on + picked up 2 mph on GPS]

Comments:
-for the type of riding I do, I like these Team secondaries a lot... so much that I bought a new Team Tied Secondary to run this year on my SRX
-off trail, deep snow[mountain type riding] is where I think the Teams would really show their stuff
-for drag racing, a tuned Yamaha secondary would be my choice
-for radar runs , again I would stay with a Yamaha secondary

I have an 2004 MNT Viper modded up I bought that way couple seasons ago.

I placed ohlins shocks in the rear, Shockwave adjustable secondary and Polaris primary. Love the sled!!


Easy/fast to dial in.

I'd go with the Shockwave secondary myself.
 
I think I will try it this year against my Yamaha clutch. I may end up selling it, as I don't want to put any money in this clutch, when I know I can make the Yammy Secondary work.
 
If you're putting triples on it, be aware that you will need to put flo-rites in the dash and seal off all the underhood air passages that can get to the air box. Not the outside hood screens, but the openings around the dash cowling on the underside of the hood. You want it to only get fresh air from the dash to the airbox, NO UNDERHOOD AIR, or you will have the powder bog. Light powder will come through the screens, melt on the pipes, and then the resulting steam will be sucked into the air box and bog the sled out. Boondocking and hill climbing in lots of light, fluffy powder will suck unless you do this. Read "the infamous powder bog" in the mountain section to understand what I mean if you're not familiar with this. I tried almost every single idea in that thread, the fix that worked for me is on the last page, with some pics.

I knew I would end up doing something with the air intake, will check out your thread, I remember skimming through it in the past. Thanks.
 
Any one know what this clutch is worth? I think I am going to sell it, because I really don't want to try tuning it for the pipes I am adding. It has the twin helix deal, and is almost new. It is also painted blue from Team.
 
is it the tss04 or the tss 98? post a picture if you could, as price will vary because the tss04 is a more desired clutch (newer design)
 
If I remember right, it had 2002 stamped into it. I'm going to take some pics to put on ebay probably tomorrow.
 
Well there was a setup used tss98 on Snowest for 100.00..... A new Team Tied Clutch is 299 from SLP. A brand new tss 04 from SLP is 199 plus the cost of helix and spring. A helix is 100.00 new, springs are 25 bucks...


So a brand new Tss04 with helix and spring would be about ~$325 from SLP....
 
Well yours actually is a TSS98... Look at the # of cooling fins on the sheeves. The 04 had a ton more fins, the 98 didnt have as many...

Good luck with the sale... Wish i had enough cash to pick er up.... I neeed to get out of college and get a full time job!

Bummer, I had no idea, I saw the TSS04, and thought it looked about the same....Oh well.
