With stock 76 heads...premum gas is fine...
Pipes and carbs make no diff.
High octane = less HP.

LET ME TELL YA WHAT, YOU RUN TODAYS PUMP GAS CRAP IN A 76 SRX YOUR ASKING FOR BIG TROUBLE. PUMP PREM TODAY VS 33 YEARS AGO I WOULD SAY THERE,s ALITTLE DEFFERENCE. GUESS YOU DID NOT SEE ALL THE POSTS ON HERE LAST WINTER OF PISTON FAILURE, BUT HEY, AIN,T MY MOTOR. 3:16 (yammie tony)
i do agree higher octane = less HP
i also agree that gas from 30 years ago is better.
i sometimes mix the two. seems to start easier and i can read my plugs.
if i run premium in my buick and the 1987 computer chip it sounds like ball bearings in a coffee can. a new chip has to be burned for todays gas...

I may be wrong today..but...92 octane is 92 octane...I think...
Around 2003 +/- my son won the Mosport 125CC kart champion ship...42HP....13,5000 rpm..Euro..racing engine...the competition all ran race fuel..we ran Sunoco premium...about 110 psi +/-
Over 100 mph...
No problems...vertex pistons...

Gas then was not the same as gas now because we have no lead now. A stock 76 SRX needs to run at least 100LL Av gas or any average race fuel. It needs the octane and the lead. A two stroke motor today with only 110psi of cranking compression would certainly be fine on 92 Premium, as RJH has proven.
