Hi, I recently purchased a 98 srx 700 and I removed my power valves today for cleaning. The removal went really well. The valves were not stuck, and the cables look good as well as the ends of the valves where the cable attaches. When I removed the valves there was a fair amount of oil that came out with the each valve. The valves appeared to be well oiled. My question is if this is normal. The person I bought the sled from may have put oil in the cylinders at the end of last season and then turned the engine over a few times. I imagine this would cause a lot of oil to run into the exhaust port and maybe the power valve assembly. (Since I have purchased the sled, I have only run it for about 5 minutes.) Or perhaps it is simply normal to have the valves be well oiled. When I put the valves back in should I put oil in either of the housings? Lightly coat the valves in oil? Or simply put them in dry? The valves had some carbon deposits on them but seemed to move freely in their housings. I soaked them in diesel fuel for a few hours then used scotch bright, cleaned up nice. Hope to put them back in tomorrow morning. Thanks for any advice, Paul.
No you don't have to oil them since thats what causes them to be dirty in the first place. So just put them in dry.

The oil will be in ther from either putting it down the cylinders at the end of the season or it was fogged heavily at the end of last season. I would say that is a good indication that it was stored to some degree properly. It wo'nt hurt to put a thin layer on the valves as you put them pack just to provide a little lubrication at first start up.
