i gave my bravo to my brother-in-law for his son(it needed work, and he has the cash!!)they got it going and took it for a small run around the yard and bang!!popped the hood open and saw that the recoil and plastic housing was totally destroyed!! he then bought a used recoil for it. started it up and the same thing happened !! any idea's to what could be happening before he buys another?

probably the throw arm in the assembly is not retracting properly. It has to be greased a little. Before installing it,visually look to see if that arm is working when you pull the rope over and over again.

There might be something loose in the bottom of the housing. when the machine bounces and the fan is moving air it could be getting up into the recoil and causing the damage.

Check to see if the starter cup bolts are loose in the flywheel.
